Transport Canada has announced a series of significant recalls affecting multiple car brands, including Porsche, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, RAM, and Jaguar. These recalls address various safety issues that could pose risks to drivers and passengers.

Porsche Recalls Taycan Models for Brake Hose Issue

Affected Models:

  • 2020-2022 Porsche Taycan
  • 2020-2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo
  • 2021-2022 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo

Issue: Certain Porsche Taycan models are experiencing potential failures in the front brake hoses, leading to a progressive brake fluid leak. This could result in reduced braking efficiency, increasing the risk of accidents.

Corrective Actions: Porsche will notify owners and advise them to visit dealerships to replace the front brake hoses to ensure optimal braking performance.

Volkswagen Recalls Atlas Models for Airbag Sensor Malfunction

Affected Models:

  • 2020-2024 Volkswagen Atlas
  • 2020-2024 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport

Issue: The passenger occupant detection system (PODS) in these Volkswagen models may malfunction, potentially deactivating the passenger-front airbag even when occupied. This malfunction would trigger an error message on the instrument panel and a warning chime.

Safety Risk: A deactivated airbag could increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Corrective Actions: Volkswagen will notify owners to bring their vehicles to dealerships for replacement of the PODS sensor mat and seat harness. Owners are advised to avoid using the front passenger seat if the airbag indicator shows “passenger airbag off.”

Mercedes-Benz Issues Multiple Recalls for Electrical and Wiring Problems

Affected Models:

  • 2022 Mercedes-Benz C Class
  • 2019-2022 Mercedes-Benz CLS, E, and GT Classes

Issue 1: In the 2022 Mercedes-Benz C Class, a wire in the pre-fuse box may not be properly tightened, potentially causing a loss of power to the wheels and overheating the wiring.

Issue 2: On various models from 2019-2022, recall repairs may not have been correctly completed, particularly in vehicles with 4Matic. Incorrect routing of the transmission wiring harness could allow water ingress, leading to short circuits.

Safety Risk: Both issues could result in increased crash risks or fire hazards.

Corrective Actions: Mercedes-Benz will inform owners to visit dealerships to tighten connections in the pre-fuse box and replace damaged parts. Additionally, affected vehicles will receive new transmission wiring harnesses to prevent short circuits.

Toyota Recalls 2023 Crown for Camera Weld Issues

Affected Model:

  • 2023 Toyota Crown

Issue: Improper welding in the front and/or rearview camera cases could lead to water leakage and potential short circuits, affecting the display of the camera images.

Safety Risk: A malfunctioning rearview camera could impair a driver’s ability to see behind the vehicle, raising the likelihood of collisions.

Corrective Actions: Toyota will notify owners to inspect and replace faulty cameras if necessary.

RAM Recalls 2022 1500 for Rearview Camera Wiring Defect

Affected Model:

  • 2022 RAM 1500

Issue: The rearview camera wiring harness may be improperly manufactured, potentially causing a short circuit and preventing the rearview camera image from displaying.

Safety Risk: A non-functional rearview camera could reduce the driver’s visibility when reversing, heightening the risk of accidents.

Corrective Actions: All affected RAM 1500 trucks have been repaired, with new rearview camera wiring harnesses installed.

Jaguar Recalls I-PACE for Battery Overheating Risk

Affected Models:

  • 2019-2020 Jaguar I-PACE

Issue: Recall repairs previously completed may not have been properly executed, necessitating a second round of fixes. Problems within the high-voltage battery could generate smoke or heat, risking battery and component damage.

Safety Risk: Overheating batteries pose a significant fire risk.

Corrective Actions: Jaguar will notify owners to update the battery energy control module software, which will monitor and alert owners to potential issues. Affected batteries will be replaced if necessary, and owners are advised to park vehicles outdoors until repairs are completed.
