Today begins Canada Road Safety Week, a 7-day nationwide initiative dedicated to enhancing road safety across the country. This annual campaign is geared towards fostering public adherence to safe driving practices, ultimately aiming to mitigate road-related fatalities and injuries in Canada. The primary focus areas of this initiative remain the eradication of impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving, and failure to wear seatbelts.
Canada Road Safety Week is spearheaded by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP), particularly its Traffic Safety Committee, with a strong emphasis on law enforcement. Its overarching objective is to bolster public compliance with safe driving norms, thereby safeguarding lives and minimizing road accidents throughout Canada.
This road safety endeavor aligns with the broader Canada’s Road Safety Strategy 2025, striving to position Canadian roads as the safest globally. Accordingly, the campaign prioritizes addressing behaviors that pose the greatest risks to drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and other vulnerable road users, including drug-impaired driving, alcohol-impaired driving, fatigue-impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving, and failure to use seatbelts.
Under the theme “Road Safety — Every Road. Every Day. Everyone.”, this year’s campaign endeavors to underscore the collective responsibility of all individuals towards promoting road safety across diverse roadways and communities.
Canada Road Safety Week is a national law enforcement campaign in Canada aimed at promoting road safety awareness and encouraging safe driving practices among motorists.
