Toronto police reported that a security guard was shot outside the residence of Canadian rapper Drake overnight.
According to authorities, the incident occurred around 2:09am in Toronto on Tuesday at the corner of Drake’s Park Lane Circle mansion, where suspects in a vehicle shot the guard before fleeing.
It remains unclear whether Drake was present during the shooting or if he was the intended target. Currently, Drake is engaged in a verbal dispute with US rapper Kendrick Lamar.
Inspector Paul Krawczyk of the Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force stated that it was too early to determine a motive, and they are collaborating with Drake’s team, who are cooperating with the investigation.
Video footage capturing the incident is being assessed, but its release is withheld due to quality issues. The victim is hospitalized in serious condition, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the chest.
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow expressed concern over the incident, emphasizing the city’s stance against gun violence and hoping for the swift apprehension of the perpetrators.
The altercation between Drake and Kendrick Lamar has intensified with the exchange of diss tracks over the weekend. Lamar’s song “Not Like Us” features Drake’s residence on its cover art, insinuating allegations of sex with underage individuals against Drake.
In response, Drake’s track “The Heart Part 6” refutes the accusations, expressing his disgust towards them. Known as “The Embassy,” Drake’s residence boasts heightened security measures, including double-height gates.
Police have cordoned off the property as investigations continue, and inquiries have been made to representatives of both artists for further comments.
