The previously peaceful Pro-Palestinian protest at McGill University had suddenly escalated, with Montreal Police (SPVM) raiding the premises and pointing guns at the protesters who took over a McGill University administrative building several hours ago.
The clashes started after Pro-Palestinian protesters stormed and occupied the McGill Administration Building at 845 Sherbrooke Ouest in downtown Montreal.
After occupying the building he protesters have tweeted: “An autonomous group of students have SUCCESSFULLY occupied the McGill Administration Building. Urgent mobilization required now at 845 Sherbrooke Ouest!”
Shortly after armed SVPM officers in full riot gear descended on the scene in an attempt to take back control over the building.
In videos distributed by student group SPHR McGill SPVM police officers can be seen pointing guns at the protesters. The protesters can be heard chanting slogans urging McGill University to divest from its ties with Israel.
At least 15 arrests have been made, while until now there was no official reaction from the SPVM nor McGill University’s administration.
Earlier today UQAM University’s Pro-Palestinian encampment has peacefully ended.
